6/24/2019 10:57:48 PM

LEH, JUNE 24.: As a part of ‘Back to Village’ programme, Financial Commissioner, Finance Department Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta held a meeting with the Panchayat members and villagers of Saboo village today. Concerned officers were also present in the meeting.

Residents expressed serious concern about pollution problem and growing menace of stray dogs due to lack of management at the nearby located garbage dumping ground (Bomb-garh).

Two drinking water projects under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) which are likely to cater to 341 households, are nearing completion in the area. Mehta told them to complete the remaining work by 15 August and ensure commissioning of the project.

Also, water reservoirs started by Rural Development Department at Saboo-Phu for water storage in winter months for irrigation purpose is incomplete due to lack of funds where Financial Commissioner Mehta suggested for completion of the work through convergence with other departments. The villagers expressed satisfaction with the electricity supply.

Villagers also demanded completion of the community playground in response to which the Financial Commissioner instructed completion of the same by Rural Development Department by July end. He advised the villagers to take part in the Panchayat Level Games that includes football, cricket, chess, carom board, kho-kho and other games, scheduled to start in August. Villagers demanded inclusion of archery in the schedule of games.

In the evening, Financial Commissioner Finance, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta also visited Project “Tsangda” at Choglamsar village which was initiated with the aim of sustainable waste management in rural pockets of Leh district. It is the first ever waste segregation centre where garbage from the local residents and shops are collected and renewed into income.

Later, Arun Mehta also inspected various major pending projects in Leh including Ice Hockey Rink, Cold Storage Facility and Open Stadium where DC Leh Avny Lavasa and ADDC Leh Moses Kunzang and engineers updated Financial Commissioner about these projects.

Reports of successful conduct of Back to Village programmes at various Panchayat Halqas in all the 16 Blocks of Leh district on the 5th day today have been received.
