Major illegal constructions coming up inside Dal lake, LAWDA silent!
7/18/2019 11:50:48 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, July 18: Scores of illegal constructions are coming up inside the dying Dal lake here with the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) sleeping over the issue.
Sources said the violations have been so brazen that the LAWDA is even silent over the opening of shops selling construction material on the banks of Dal lake.
Sources said scores of shops are selling construction material including cement along the Saida Kadal side of the Dal lake and that huge constructions have come up in the area.
Officials said they have confirmed inputs that dozens of concrete constructions have come up inside the lake in the last few months. "The same can be authenticated by the satellite imaging. Even shopping complexes and other commercial complexes have come up right inside the Dal lake, let the government look into it," said a delegation of concerned citizens.
Sources said the enforcement squad of LAWDA in league with some officials in the Housing and Urban Development Department have been allowing all such illegal construction that are coming up in violation of the directives of the State High court.
"There are some officials in the enforcement wing of the LAWDA who have not been transferred for many years now and they have developed a circuit of sending nazrana to the higher ups," said a source in the LAWDA.
He said if the government makes an on the spot assessment or even makes use satellite imaging, the things will be exposed before the world.
"These illegal constructions are a big money game and share reaches all those in the grid," the sources said.
The sources said the illegal constructions are also taking up from the Lal Bazar side and that despite complaints the LAWDA was failing to act.
Despite repeated attempts the officials in the enforcement squad of the LAWDA couldn't be contacted for comments.
But a LAWDA official downplayed the matter saying complaints keep pouring in and that strict action was being taken against the violators.
Meanwhile the concerned citizens have appealed Governor SP Malik to personally look into the matter.
