BJP sought Parliament approval for its Union cabinet decision to end Article 370
8/7/2019 10:57:08 PM

Despite the Congress objecting to the BJP led Union Government's decision to initiate abrogation of Article 370 and fiddling with Article 35-A the BJP led NDA Government sought approval from the two Houses of Parliament. The Congress stand was that neither the constituent Assembly nor the state Assembly was consulted for seeking their approval the centre informed the Lok Sabha that since the Constituent Assembly had been dissolves long back and the state Assembly had been dissolved last year the only way left for the Government was to seek approval of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha which the two Houses of Parliament supported the Union cabinet decision. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the government was using the route of Parliament to bring the changes in the State because the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was not in place. He asked the Congress to specify stance whether it would accept the mediation of United Nations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Amid repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha, Shah said nobody could stop the government from introducing a resolution on Kashmir in Parliament. The House witnessed exchanges between Shah and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha. Raising objections, TMC also staged a walk out. As the Lok Sabha debated the government's resolution to scrap Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and a Bill to bifurcate the state, the absence of lawmaker from Kashmir Farooq Abdullah was raised in the House Shah moved the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019, the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill 2019, and the resolution revoking Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha.
The Home Minister said: "Kashmir is an integral part of India, there is no doubt over it. Nobody can stop us from introducing a resolution on Kashmir in Parliament." To repeated interruptions from the Opposition Benches, he also said: "When I talk about Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Aksai Chin are included in it."
"There has been long-standing demand for UT status for Ladakh and we have fulfilled it now," said Shah, adding that when the situation normalises Jammu and Kashmir can become a separate State. BJP MP from Jammu, Jugal Kishore Sharma said the Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is a blot on history and had completely isolated the state. After the fiddling with Article 35-A anybody from outside the state could open an industry for which he could buy the land in the state.
Earlier couple of non-state subjects had planned to set up industrial projects in the region of Jammu but had to close the projects because they could not buy land. Even those connected with building multi-storyed bulidings could also come to Kashmir and Jammu for they want land for setting up their projects. This would generate jobs and people in Kashmir and Jammu need jobs because except for the state Government no major indutrialists could set their industries because of the problem of land and this would resolve the problem of unemployment.
