JAMMU, Aug 11: The hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir continue to face acute dearth of doctors and paramedics with hundreds of posts lying vacant, thereby adversely affecting the delivery of patient care services.
As per the available data, recently compiled by Ministry of health and family welfare revealed that in 637 sanctioned Primary Health Centres (PHCs), the sanctioned strength of doctors were 1347 but against the sanctioned strength only 694 post are fulfilled and remaining 653 were lying vacant.
Out of sanctioned PHCs, only 61 have functional with four doctors, 86 with 3 doctors, 159 functional with two doctors, and 191 are running with single doctor while 273 PHCs are running without Lab technicians.
The data further revealed that out of 637 PHCs, 107 (16.8%) were without electric supply, 132 (20.7%) were without regular water supply, 111 (17.4%) without all weather motorable approach road and only 69 (10.8%) PHCs have telephone connection.
The data revealed grim picture of infrastructure in the sanctioned PHCs i,e only 204 (32%) Primary Health Centres are functioning 24X7 hours and most of them located in urban and semi urban areas of the Jammu and Kashmir while only 305 have labour room facility and only 14 PHCs have functional with Operation Theatre (OT). Besides 421 PHCs are functional with at least 4 beds and remaining were functional with one, two and three beds facilities. Against the sanctioned 2967 Sub Centres, 1456 Centres are functional without separate toilet facility for male and female patients while 1459 sub centres without toilet facility for staff.
"In sanctioned PHCs, 216 operating without separate toilet facility for male and female patients while 271 having no toilet facility for staff members", the date reads.
Moreover, in 84 sanctioned CHCs (Community Health Centres), 50 without operating separate toilets for male and female patients and 60 were without having no facility of toilets for staff members.
