Politicians cut to size: new J&K Govt to have 9 Ministers only
8/21/2019 11:04:29 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 21: The Government of India Reorganising Jammu and Kashmir State into Union Territories (UTs) has left the politician high and dry.
According to J&K Reorganisation Act 2019, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will have 90 assembly seats, after the delimitation will be held. However strength of new cabinet will be just 10 percent of total strength of the new legislature. "The Reorganisation of the state has also led to abolish of the Upper House and there will be no Legislative Council in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
An Analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Politicians during the past 70 years have been ruling Jammu and Kashmir, will find it very difficult to adjust with the new setup."
He said, "Which ever the party comes to power in Jammu and Kashmir after the assembly elections are held, will have a limited role, as major decisions will be taken by the Lt. Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir."
An Observer said that the Reorganisation of the state has cut the Politicians to the size. "These politicians have been ruling Jammu and Kashmir for the past seven decades like monarchs, during past 70 years Kashmiri Politicians dominated state and preferred Kashmir over Jammu. The Politicians from Jammu region irrespective of their party affiliation acted like second fiddles during all these years", he added.
The Observer claimed that experiment of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) to enter into alliance with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir failed to change the discourse. ",Despite BJP sharing power with PDP in the state nothing changed, and BJP Ministers continue to act as junior partners. All the major portfolios were held by the PDP and its leaders took unilateral decisions", he added.
But it didn't happen now the politicians from Jammu and Kashmir will have to remain dependent on the Centre, till Government of India re-considers its decision to turn J&K into a state again."
It is in place to mention that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had stated on the Floor of House that Union Territory for J&K is temporary and when the situation normalises the J&K would get its state hood back.
