Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 29: As a part of major relief to lakhs of people living in Chenab valley and Pir Panchal areas of Jammu Division, the mobile calling services restoration has eased out the public sufferings in term of establishment of connectivity to the outside world which was suspended following the scraping of Article 370 and 35 A of the constitution by the NDA government.
As per the details available with Early Times, all the mobile communication lines became functional in five districts viz Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch since late last evening while this morning the government owned company BSNL telecommunication also restore the mobile calling services on its mobile network.
Following the restoration of mobile calling services, there is heavy rush on the mobile recharge outlets as the mobile packs of several people have expired its limit during the suspension period.
Speaking to Early Times, the people said that they finally managed to call their relatives, children and other family members settled in different parts of the country and outside country.
Among the people who are most happy after the restoration of mobile calling services are the hundreds of security personnel deputed on law and order duty in these five districts of Jammu Division.
A security personal on law and order duty told the Early Times that he had to spend several hours in waiting to call from local STD booths for contacting his family. He said that the STD booths owner charged around Rs 5-10 per minute call which is very high adding that with the restoration of mobile calling services at least they will be able to get in touch with their family members.
Another security personal told the Early Times that he was unable to transfer the money to his children studying in college adding that he had to run from pillar to post to know about the well being of his family and expressed his gratitude to some local families who allowed him to call back home from their landline phones.
"My wife was bitten by a snake and I came to know only after I reached home a week later," said an army personal from Kishtwar posted outside Kishtwar district.
He said that government should continue the services adding that in case anyone misuses it, the individual should be dealt with iron hands instead of punishing the masses.
Meanwhile, internet continued to remain under suspension as a result of which online banking and digital transactions were hit badly.
