Early Times Report

Rajouri, Oct 1: The sub-district administration Sunderbani today organised a students' rally to spread the message of sanitation and cleanliness among the general public. The rally was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Vinod Kumar Behnal from sub-district hospital and after passing main markets it culminated at New bus stand. The rally was conducted as a part of Swachhta Hi sewa and single use plastic free campaign. It witnessed the participation of a large number of students of Girls Higher Secondary and Boys Higher Secondary schools ASHA and Anganwadi workers. The participants of the rally were holding banners and placards in their hands with the message of 'Say no to plastic' and sanitation. The participants visited several shops and collected a large quantity single use plastic. They told the shopkeepers and the general public about the ill effects of plastic on humans, animals and environment. They urged shopkeepers not to use polythene in their shops and told them the benefits of eco-friendly alternatives of polythene like jute bags which are easily available now and free of any environmental hazards. They appealed the public to give up the use of single use plastic as this is the main cause of environmental pollution because it cannot be destroyed easily. They told that plastic is the cause of several diseases including cancer, birth defects, impaired immunity and other ailments. In his address, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinod Kumar Behnall said that the main purpose of holding such rallies and awareness programmes is to inculcate the importance of sanitation in the minds of the common masses.
