Poonch, Oct 12: The District Hospital Poonch has been facing problem of inadequate facilities as well as huge shortage of doctors and other staff due to which the patients are suffering a lot.
A social worker of Poonch, Sukhvinder Singh, while talking to Early Times informed that the District Hospital Poonch caters services in emergency to save human lives but due to shortage of doctors and other staff, the patients have been facing problems due to unavailability of specialist doctors. "It is very shocking fact that ever since the inception of District Hospital Poonch, the government has not appointed an ENT doctor in the hospital till date while there was an eye specialist in the hospital but after his retirement the post is also still lying vacant," Sukhvinder Singh said. He further said that they have submitted the memorandum in this connection to the department but no action has been taken to this public grievance. "Recently a dialysis unit was opened with the cost of Rs 12-15 lakh in the hospital who is being operated by a medical assistant and there is no senior doctor to supervise this section, which is life threatening fact. Moreover, the CT Scan unit which was established nearly five years ago, has been lying defunct due to absence of doctor. He further alleged that doctors force patients to take treatment from them in their private clinic. "We have received number of complaints where doctors ask patients to visit in their private clinics for further treatment. Recently a patient, who had a fracture in his leg, alleged that an Ortho doctor in the hospital asked him to get his leg plastered from his private clinic. Patients, admitted in hospital are compelled to purchase, drips, and syringes from the shops outside the hospital," he alleged. He said that there was an alternate road to this hospital from its backside to avoid traffic jam but in order to safeguard their interests, the hospital administration closed this road. "There is nexus between the owners of Pharmacy shops and doctors, which is also another reason to close the road from backside," he said.
Despite repeated attempts by the Early Times Correspondent, the concerned Superintended of District Hospital Poonch could not be available for his comments.
