Slain truck driver's colleague hail locals for raising hue and cry at the spot

Anantnag, Oct 29: Suspected Militants on Monday late evening Killed a truck driver in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Body of one identified militant was also recovered from the area, police officials told Early Times.
According to reports, militants targeted a group of truckers in Kanelwan village of Anantnag on Monday late evening. "Three militants wearing Pherans (Long Gowns) and speaking in Kashmiri language bragged inside a local fruit mandi and asked truck drivers to assemble. They started thrashing us the moment we assembled and later fired upon on, "Truck Driver, who escaped unhurt from the spot, told Early Times.
He said that local population raised hue and cry the moment they heard sound of firing. "Noise of local populace helped us and we escaped unhurt," they said.
Official sources revealed that the militants had tided truckers before firing indiscriminately upon them and killing one of them.
"The area was cordoned off and a search operation was started after shifting the dead body of slain truck driver to Police Station Bijbehara," they said.
Slain truck driver has been identified as Nairayan Dutt of Jejjer Kotli Udmaphur.
Anantnag Police said that during the search operation an identified dead body of militant was also recovered from the spot.
"Militant seems to have died due his bullet that reechoed from the desk of vehicle," they said, hwoiever the idenetity of militant hasn't be aseratined yet.
Meanwhile, BJP State Vice President Sofi Yousuf condemned the killing of Truck Driver in Kanelwan village of South Kashmir's Anantnag district.
"This depicts how frustrated the militants are. Out of frustration they are targeting civilians and poor laborers," He said.
Expressing sympathy with the family of slain truck driver, Sofi said that militancy in the state will be wiped out completely within six months. He also thanked locals for rescuing other truck drivers.
