Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 29: National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana today called for united fight to uproot terrorism, saying terror scourge is a biggest challenge to the humanity.
"Terrorism has no place in a civilized society. A terrorist has no religion; a terrorist is a terrorist and must be treated as a terrorist. Let's all unite to uproot the terror", Mr Rana said while interacting with mourners at the residence of the slain truck driver Narayan Dutt at Teerthi village near Katra this evening.
Killed by terrorists in the Valley yesterday, Narayan Dutt leaves behind four children aged 7, 12, 14 and 17 years.
The Provincial President expressed concern over the recent killing of truck drivers in the Valley and appealed to all to defeat terrorism.
"We, in Jammu and Kashmir, should close our ranks in combating terror and isolate the peace inimical elements by further strengthening bonds of amity and brotherhood", he said.
He described the killing of Narayan Dutt as gruesome, barbaric and inhuman, saying the dastardly act will not deter the peace-loving people of Jammu and Kashmir to meet the challenge with courage, fortitude and resilience. He said Jammu and Kashmir has bled profusely since 1990 and the brutal acts of terror have only strengthened the resolve of the people to combat the scourge resolutely.
He lauded the unbreakable spirit of the people in maintaining peace and harmony during most testing times.
Mr Rana met the members of the bereaved family and expressed his solidarity with them at this hour grief. He prayed for peace to the departed soul.
In a statement, Mr Rana urged the government to sanction ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs for next of the kin of the deceased immediately, free education to his children and job for one of them when he attains the age of eligibility.
"Though the loss of the precious human life cannot be compensated yet this is the minimum the government can do for the hapless family of the deceased, which lost their dear one and the only bread earner", Mr Rana said and referred to the similar gesture shown and assistance provided by the Rajasthan government to the truck driver, who too was killed by terrorists in the Valley recently.
