BJP shamelessly celebrating demotion of Dogra State: Harsh
11/1/2019 2:09:38 PM
Jammu, : Referring to the celebrations at various places in Jammu over transition of J&K State to Union Territory, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNPP & former Education Minister described the saffron festivities and functions as yet another ludicrous chapter in the theatrical performance of the BJP. While the downgrading of 200 year old Dogra State had sparked outrage amongst the general masses, the BJP and its allies were shamelessly celebrating the occasion, regretted Singh “what for are these celebrations being held by BJP, the people would like to know?. Does it not amount to sprinkling salt on the wounds of people? You have obliterated the very visage of Dogra history by demolishing the State and now you are rejoicing the occasion by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets. This is not only ridiculous but constitutes an act of profanity” remarked the NPP Chairman.

“The Dogras reposed their faith in you by giving you 25 seats in Assembly and both the Parliamentary seats of the region with the hope and belief that their interests would be safe and secure under your leadership. What have you done? Robbed us of our identity and our stature” said Singh. He added that demotion of the State was not only a cruel joke with the people but also amounted to dishonor of the most revered Dogra Ruler Maharaja Hari Singh. He regretted that while the State was ‘beheaded’ by reducing its status to UT, the BJP with its bizarre circus was inviting people to celebrate and rejoice. “Such gimmickry could no longer beguile the people whose sense of self respect had been hurt”. Stop taking Dogras for granted” said Singh adding that the BJP was still living under the mistaken belief that people of Jammu were naive and would reconcile with any dispensation thrust upon them.

Urging upon the political and social organizations to rise to the occasion to retrieve the status of statehood, Mr. Singh said that collective efforts needed to be made to counter all such authoritarian moves of narcissistically pleased ruling party imposing one draconian order after the other in J&K. “The injustice and injury may not be that upsetting. What is most distressing is insult to our self esteem and pride” maintained the NPP leader
