Protect rights of J&K residents
11/26/2019 10:41:42 PM

Chorus to protect land and job rights of residents of Jammu & Kashmir has gained momentum during the past few weeks especially in Jammu region. Leaders of Congress and Panthers Party have upped the ante and are issuing statements to tell the people at the helm that the "Permanent Residents" of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir cannot be ignored. They are demanding that government should formulate a policy to safeguard the rights of the common people. Soon after the Government of India bifurcated erstwhile state of J&K into two Union Territories on August 5 this year the Jammu based BJP leaders were the first one to raise the issue of protecting the rights of the locals. But since then they have maintained silence as they fear they could face disciplinary action. Leaders of the political parties and activists of other groups are now openly demanding that something needs to be done to protect the rights of the local people. This can become a big issue in the next Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir as the opposition parties will seek votes by promising the people that they would fight for restoration of J&K statehood and for protecting land and jobs of the people. The BJP leaders in J&K cannot remain silent on this issue for a long time as it touches the skin of a common man. If they have to win the elections and form the maiden government in the Union Territory of J&K then the leaders of the saffron party will have to convey to their leaders sitting in the national capital that local issues cannot be ignored.
At present BJP leaders are silent as they know it very well that Assembly elections in the J&K UT can get delayed till 2021 as the delimitation process is yet to commence. So they are watching the developments silently. Another factor could be that they have become complacent and have started believing that people of Jammu have no other option other than to vote for BJP. It seems someone needs to wake them up and tell them that people in Jammu can't be just misled by raising hollow slogans and they are very much concerned about their future. People of Jammu know it very well that their identity and rights need to be protected and political parties cannot ignore these just demands.
