Early Times Report

Anantnag, Nov 26: At least two people were killed after suspected militants on Tuesday attacked 'Back to Village' program in Hakura village of South Kashmir's Anantnag district.
According to reports, militants targeted civilians by hurling a grenade towards the village Panchayat building in Hukura, where they had assembled to attend 'Back to Village' program initiated by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
"Grenade blasted near the venue and injured many. Militants also fired upon sarpanch from close range," reports said
Among the injured, they said, two of them succumbed to their injuries when they were being shifted to Anantnag Medical College.
Slain were identified as Syed Rafi A Shah S/o mohd yousf shah (Sarpanch), a resident of Hakura Anantnag. Shah on Monday had hailed the Back to Village Program and participated actively in the program by bringing out and involving local residents in the initiative that has been started by the government to resolve the problems of villages and far off areas and Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Lazibal Anantnag. Zahoor was working as Junior Assistant in Agriculture Department. Another injured, who is being treated in GMC Anantnag, has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Parray S/o Ghulam Mohmmad Parray, resident of Hakura Anantnag.
Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers. Sources told Early Times that the administration hadn't done enough security measures for the program.
This isn't for the first the time that militants have targeted civilians in Kashmir valley. Post abrogation of Article 370, militants continue to target civilians and innocents. Earlier militants killed non-local laborers and drivers.
