Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: The almost zero activity of the Municipal Council (MC) Udhampur is quite evident from the garbage dumps here and there in the town, no proper drainage system, stray animals everywhere, even slight rain leaving waterlogged roads etc.
This was claimed by Preeti Khajuria, Udhampur Municipal Councillor of Ward number 1 while exclusively talking to Ashwani sharma early times corespondent udhampur
"The MC has not spent even a penny on development works . I am one of the members of the Financial Committee of the MC and despite repeatedly seeking details I was informed nothing about the spending by the MC on development works," she further said.
She said that number of patients affected by water borne diseases has increased enormously in the district hospital but still the MC Udhampur has not found any alternate place for garbage disposal and is continuing with the same at the bank of river Tawi.
It is pertinent to mention here that pollution control board by the direction of National Green Tribunal (NGT) has fined Rs. 1.39 crore to Udhampur MC for garbage disposal at the bank of river Tawi as the reports stated that public of Udhampur was being supplied contaminated water.
"Has the MC gone sensitive and had avoided garbage disposal at river Tawi banks, the same whooping amount would have been spend on public welfare via developments," Khajuria maintained.
"I took all these issues with MC president many times but nothing was dome and now the bashing by NGT is a welcome step," she further said.
Preeti further said that stray dogs have become a menace and many times children and others are bitten by these canines but the MC has not done anything in this regard.
"Same is the condition of street lights which are rarely seen in the streets and roads of the town while the problem of broken lanes and drains is very alarming," she maintained.
