Chief Engineer (Distribution) oversteps authority, ensures no power cut in his native area

SRINAGAR, Dec 16: Any officer who is entrusted responsibility as head of any particular department or corporation is expected to have impeccable character, highest degree of integrity and morality. However, in Kashmir valley in most of the cases reverse happens and one can quote a recent example in this regard.
Sources told Early Times that a top ranking officer of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) recently issued directions to his sub-ordinate staff that the area where he resides should not be subjected to any curtailment. This has resulted into more curtailment for many areas including some posh colonies in up-town Srinagar.
"This officer who was recently transferred and posted as Chief Engineer (Distribution) has asked the officials of grid station Rawalpora to ensure that there is no curtailment in the Shah Anwar Colony at Hyderpora. The engineer lives in the Shah Anwar colony, considered to be one of the posh areas of Srinagar," said sources.
Sources said that following the diktat of the Chief Engineer (Distribution) the KPDCL has revised the curtailment schedule for the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Rawalpora grid station. They said the feeders other than the one feeding power supply to Shah Anwar are facing six hour curtailment schedule on daily basis.
"According to the curtailment schedule drawn up by the KPDCL the metered areas of Srinagar are subjected to four and half hours cut in a day. However, the areas other than Shah Anwar colony that fall under jurisdiction of Rawalpora grid station are facing power cut of six hours in a day," said sources.
Sources said that over-stepping of authority by Chief Engineer (Distribution) has led to more power woes for a huge population that comes under the jurisdiction of Rawalpora grid station. The people of these are subjected to two hours power cut thrice on a daily basis with the curtailment starting as early as 7 in the morning.
"According to the original curtailment schedule the curtailment for the metered areas in Srinagar starts at 8 in the morning, but in case of areas of Rawalpora grid station (other than Shah Anwar colony) the curtailment starts 7 in the morning. There is more trouble in the night as the last slot for curtailment is between 8 PM and 10 PM which is not the case in other metered areas," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that the metered areas of Srinagar are expected to see three slots of one and half hours each of power cut thrice on daily basis. The three slots are distributed in the morning, afternoon and evening in order to ensure that the load is distributed rationally in the metered and non-metered areas.
