| Tree Talk organised | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 25: Tree Talk was organized in collaboration with The Himalayan Avian foundation in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park today focused on urban tree diversity. More than 40 citizens participated.
Tree Talk interaction started with common Kassod tree, Kaspattra, Senna siamea known for Pheasant wood used in musical instrument making in China, its tender shoots used in Thai curry under the name Khelik. Its close relative Cassia fistula Amaltas, Karangal in Dogri is well known in Ayurveda as Araghvaddh, pod pulp boiled decoction administered against constipation piles, fistula treatment. Populations of plants like Senna tora Lauki Hedma, Senna occidentalis Baddi Hedma, Senna absus Chaksu the medicinal plants related to Kassod tree seen in wastelands are getting depleted due to proliferation of Invasive Alien Species like Gajar ghas Parthenium hysterophorus, Jojda Xanthium strumarium, Neela fullnu Azeratum conyzoides, Panjphulli Lantana camara. |
