12/25/2019 11:07:53 PM

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 25:The Government Degree College Bandipora officials and some senior officials in the Higher Education Department have come under scanner for alleged financial embezzlement worth lakhs of rupees.
Highly placed sources told Early Times that the Director Colleges, Muhammad Yaseen Shah had received complaints about financial embezzlements at the Bandipora college but that no action was taken as yet against the accused.
Sources said the Directorate of Higher Education had initiated a "symbolic inquiry into the matter but the results have remained inconclusive."
It was reliably learnt that a some top ranking faces in the Bandipora college were in league with some top officials in the Higher Education Department for remaining silent on the issue.
Sources said apart from mismanagement of funds, the college authorities were involved in getting attendance of some of the absent employees done.
"No attendance of an absent employee is possible unless there is an underhand dealing. Let the government probe it," said some of the staff members of the college on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the college staff has been "threatened to keep their mouth shut on the irregularities or face action."
The students studying at the college said the campus had become a hub of corruption. "The college administration is working so fraudulently that anything is possible for nazrana," said some students on the condition of anonymity.
Officials have raised questions over the silence of the top officials in the Higher Education Department over the issue of corruption at the college. "Unless top officials are hand in glove in the shady deals what would have prevented the department from taking strict action against the corrupt," said some officials.
When contacted a senior official confirmed to the Early Times that complaints regarding alleged corruption have been received. "The matter is being looked into," the official said on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile the college staff and the students have appealed Lieutenant Governor GC Mumru to get the matter probed.
