Allow India to move ahead
12/25/2019 10:32:15 PM
The Union Cabinet giving its approval for the National Population Register (NPR) has triggered a debate whether it's a step towards National Register for Citizens (NRC)?
Soon after the Cabinet gave its nod, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave detailed clarification about the NPR saying that it has got nothing to do with the NRC and there is no link between the two.
The Government of India (GoI) seems to be treading a cautious path after protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rocked the country. The demonstrations subsided after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear that there is no proposal having a countrywide NRC and the CAA won't have any impact on the Indian citizens.
The opposition parties are trying to pick up holes in the NPR and are asking the government why it is so keen on just updating its database in the country where caste, colour and creed have never been the big issues. In India everyone has lived in harmony with each other and peaceful co-existence has been a hallmark of our country. India has never behaved like its neighbours, who have discriminated the people on the basis of their religion and has snatched the rights of minorities.
The GoI has to ensure that vested interests are kept at bay and no misinformation is spread viz a viz the NPR. Union Home Ministry has already cleared the air on the NPR and has termed it as a step to reach out to poor people who don't figure in the records. Union Home Minister has tried to put all the speculations at rest.
Enough of politics has been played over CAA and the precious lives have been lost. India is a progressive country where violence has no role. Ones who want to build their castles over the bodies of poor people are not doing any favour to the nation.
In democracy people have got right to protest but there is no scope for the violence and bloodshed. Ones who are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill should realize that they are doing a big disservice to the country. People at the helm need to concentrate on developmental issues rather than getting stuck in the trifling issues. Elements inimical to peace should be left alone as they have developed a habit of indulging in criticism for the sake of it. India has to move forward and no one should be allowed to stop its progress and prosperity.
