Comm Secy H&ME Atal Dullo reviews working of JKAIDS Control Society

JAMMU, Jan 6: Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo today chaired a meeting to review the functioning and achievements of J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS).
During the meeting, the FC health passed on several directions to the concerned officers for effective implementation of the initiatives taken under JKACS.
It was informed that several new initiatives have been launched by JKACS for the welfare of people and a full-fledged Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) centre has been established at GMC Kathua, while project proposals for Anantnag, Udhampur, Rajouri and Doda GMCs are in the pipeline.
It was also informed that JKACS is implementing HIV and Tuberculosis (TB) intervention in prisons with the support of an NGO.
“A sensitization programmes for jail inmates has also been conducted and 600 inmates were sensitized about HIV and drug addiction,” the meeting was told.
It was also given out in the meeting that training of health workers is being conducted on regular basis for disseminating awareness about AIDS and drug addiction control.
The FC was informed that 36 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres are fully functional in Jammu and Kashmir.
The FC Health Department directed for increase in the antenatal check-ups of women during pregnancy to monitor the progress of foetal growth and to ascertain the well-being of the mother and the foetus. He said that a proper antenatal check-up provides necessary care to the mother and helps identify any complications in pregnancy.
The meeting was attended by Project Director JKACS Mushtaq Ahmed Rather; Joint Director (Planning) H&ME, Madan Lal and other officers.
