Manwal-Majalta via Satrari road still waits blacktopping, authorities unmoved

ASHWANI SHARMA
EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Jan 19: Even as the condition of Manwal-Majalta via Satrari road is in dilapidated state, the authorities concerned are not paying any attention towards its restoration. This road stretch of about 6 kms is a vital link between several villages like Satrari, Kathail and others. A portion of around 2kms is almost in a rundown condition due to which a large number of locals as well as other commuters are facing lots of problems.
Rakesh Sharma, a local of Satrari informed that due to the bad condition of this road passenger vehicles of this area are developing regular mechanical faults which in turn prompt the drivers to totally avoid traveling under such miserable conditions adding that the students of the area are bearing the maximum brunt of this road as they daily reach their schools late and the story while heading back to home is not different either. He said that hundreds of people are forced to walk to tread the pathetic path.
A woman from Kathail said that her daughter’s education is getting severely affected due to the ramshackle road stretch.
Some other locals told Early Times that they brought up the matter into the notice of concerned authorities on several occasions like but nothing has been done so far. They said that every time when the work gets started only half-hearted measures were applied adding that the contractors use sub-standard material and leave the work only up to gravel and never bother to black top the surface of the road. The locals said that now when the main road from Manwal to Majalta via Dhar Road is closed due to repairing work, the alternate link of Manwal to Majalta via Satrari was the best option but its poor condition means the people will continue to suffer. It is only due to the negligence of concerned authorities as well as district administration who failed to complete only the two 2 kms portion of this road.
The locals also informed that during election days big promises were made with them but nobody is visiting to enquire about their plight.
