Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 19: After blaming own party president Mehbooba Mufti for the present situation in the erstwhile state of J&K, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig on Sunday dropped any bombshell by alleging that the Congress had supported abrogation of Article 370 in the Parliament.
“Congress and many other parties had not voted against move of the government to abolish Article 370 in the Parliament. Those who had boycotted the Parliament had support the move to abolish Article 370”, Baig said while addressing a function organized by Haq Insaaf Council on its 6th foundation day.
Baig further added that those who had drafted Article 370 had committed fraud . He recalled that earlier it was 306(A) which was later changed to Article 370.
Baig said that Article 370 was emotional issue for the people of J&K but in the rest of country it was the same case. He said that many political parties had either supported or boycotted voting on Abrogation of Article 370.
In the function Baig recalled on the on August 4, a day before abrogation of Article 370, all party meeting was convened at the residence of former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in which three former Chief Ministers were present. He said that meeting had discussed legal aspects of Article 370.
Baig admitted that there was a feeling of alienation among people of Jammu because since 1947 only once a leader from Jammu was allowed to occupy the seat of Chief Minister. “Although Ghulam Nabi Azad was made first chief minister from Jammu, he could not represent sentiments of the people of Jammu region”, Baig said.
Earlier on January 10, Baig had accused incarcerated party chief Mehbooba Mufti of being responsible for downgrading of J&K into two union territories by making “provocative” and “threatening” statements over Article 370.
“The statement was made by Mehbooba Mufti in my absence. I was not there when she made it. I have on record said that the statement like it resulted in the downgrading of the state (JK) into union territories”, Baig, who is one of the founding members of the PDP, told reporters on January 10.
