National Girl Child Day celebrated

JAMMU, Jan 24: To commemorate the National Girl Child Day, the Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu, organised Nukkad Natak on the theme "Hamari Betiyaan" on 24th January, 2020 on the Campus. National girl child day was initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the government of India in 2008 with the purpose to spread awareness among people about all the inequalities girls face in the society. This mission also aims to raise the awareness among people all over the country to promote awareness about the rights of the girl child as well as the importance of girl's education, health and nutrition. The nukkad natak was staged keeping all these factors in mind which was witnessed by huge number of students/scholars and staff of the University. The performance was given by the artists of Nav Durga Kala Manch under the directions of Aditya Bhanu. The gathering thoroughly enjoyed the nukkad natak which highlighted the issues like female foeticide, declining sex-ratio, son preference prevalent in the society. Prof. Vishav Raksha, the Director Centre for Women's Studies concluded the show by emphasizing on the fact that every individual has to come forward to remove the inequalities faced by the girls in the society, so that there is no need to have such special days.
