Trump’s mediation offer becomes a joke
US President turns into laughing stock, as India says polite no again
1/24/2020 11:10:16 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 24: President of United States Donald Trump seems obsessed with Kashmir. Every time he meets Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, he renews his mediation offer.
Since the day Trump has raised the mediation bogey over Kashmir, he has been repeatedly told by the Government of India that there is no chance of any third party role in Kashmir.
After Trump’s latest statement the Ministry of External Affairs once again came out with a statement to tell the US President that India’s stand is clear and there are no takers for Trump being ready to act as a mediator.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that the US President, who is facing the impeachment motion, is trying to divert the attention of his people from the issues which his country is confronting. “Trump ordering a killing of an Iranian Army Commander and the subsequent missile attacks carried out by Iran at the American bases in Iraq had put the US President in a tight spot. He had never expected that Iran will muster courage to retaliate. Had any American soldiers been killed in the retaliatory attack carried out by Iran, President Trump would have been left with no other option other than to step down,” he added.
An observer said, “During all these years one thing has become amply clear that President Trump keeps on changing his statements. The world community doesn’t take him seriously anymore.”
He said that Trump’s “mediation offer” has become a joke. “Even his own countrymen know it very well that he wants to keep Imran Khan in good humour by talking about Kashmir. It seems by now Pakistan too has realized that offers being made by Trump are nothing but a mere formality,” the observer added.
He said, “Even if Trump survives the impeachment bid, it would be very difficult for him to get elected for the next term as the people in United States don’t seem much impressed by his policies. Many American believes that Trump has not been able to live upto their expectations and he won’t make it to the top office again.”
Another analyst said, “When Trump raised the mediation bogey for the first time last year and claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to act as a mediator, not many people believed his claim. But Pakistan kept on insisting that Trump cannot lie. Prime Minister Modi had to come out with a clarification and tell the world he never sought Trump’s help. Since that day GoI has remained firm on its stand and has turned down Trump’s offer on many occasions.”
