Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 26: The women cricketers from the Union Territory of J&K smell a rat in the selection/ trail for the selection of J&K Under-23 Women Cricket team, recently conducted by Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Annoyed over alleged dubious trial/selection process, the candidates participated here at Jammu, from various part of the Union Territory of J&K including Kashmir claimed the trail was an eye wash and the selectors conducted the trail half-heartedly. “It seems that the JKCA conducted the exercise just to fulfil paper works. During the 10 days long trail, the candidates kept asking the selectors for their trail, but the selectors didn’t take their request seriously”, told insiders, adding that the scheduled 10 days trail was also reduced to six days only.
The sources informed that 15 players have been selected during the trial without any hard-work and fair opportunity to all, even some of the candidates even could not enter the trail court.
“The un-official, first phase was held on January 11 and 12, at MAM Stadium, second and third phase took place at GGM Science Collage on January 16-19 and 19-20”, the insider told, adding that though officially there was no phase wise trail, but the way JKCA conducted the trail/sections one can understand that it was a phased manner exercise, as selectors appeared in phases. “Two selectors ran the trail for first four days, while on the last day, the third selector joined the process,” he added.
One player was initially told that has qualified, but latter dropped by the selection on the pertext of her failure to catch the ball in trial. “Some of the players from winter zone had examinations, so they tried to get know timely about the decision/ indications from the selectors. The selectors were urged by the candidates, if they were in list then they can skip examination, but if not they should proceed for their respective areas”, said an official, adding that the selector whoever, replied in positive way to girl confirming her selection, but next day she was told that she is not in the list because she had dropped catch in the trials. “It was a cruel joke to a player who gave her best during bowling, batting and fielding, then dropped for single catch drop instance”, the official said. The players told that during their stay in Jammu JKCA didn’t provide them any kind of accommodation and food. “During our stay at Jammu the JKCA didn’t provided us any facility. Some of us stayed in Dharamshallas and the Gurudwaras”, they added.
“There is huge money in cricket, but less competition in women cricket as compare to men’s cricket. The JKCA don’t take seriously the selection process for the women”, a senior sport person claimed.
President Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Syed Ashaq Hussain Bukhari didn’t answer phone calls by the correspondent for his version.
