Holi Celebrated at District Jail

JAMMU, Mar 9: Holi was celebrated at District Jail Amphalla, Jammu where a cultural programme was presented by the inmates. Lt. General Y. K. Joshi, UYSM, AVSM, VrC, SM, GoC-in-C, Northern Command was the Chief Guest. The programme was witnessed by V. K. Singh, IPS, Director General of Police, Prisons, Dr. M. S. Lone, DIG Prisons, Col Harsh Vardhan Singh, Mil Advisor to Army Commander, Khusboo Mattoo, Programme Director Radio Mirchi besides officers/staff of Prisons Department, Jail inmates and their families.
During the programme jail inmates presented various cultural items like dance numbers, patriotic/folk songs which received thunderous applause from the audience. Guest performer -Shreya Gandral and trainers from amongst the staff gave scintillating performances which were highly appreciated. A short film on the motto of Prisons Department-Care, Custody and Correction was also displayed during the programme.
Superintendent, District Jail Jammu in his welcome address underlined various steps being taken in the prisons for reformation of prisoners and improving prison administration. He highlighted that the Department is working towards making jails self-reliant and providing better living conditions and training facilities to the inmates.
Lt. General Y. K. Joshi in his address appreciated the efforts made by jail authorities for welfare of prisoners. He was happy to note that the jail authorities are helping the inmates in making best utilization of their time in prisons by imparting vocational skills in the jail. He lauded the inmates who performed during the function and complemented the trainers and staff of Prisons Department.
Earlier, the Lt. General Y. K. Joshi visited Mulaqat Room, Video Conferencing Room, Product Display Unit, Inmate Telephone System and jail hospital.
Holi was celebrated in the jail for the first time. Playing with colours, enjoying traditional holi sweets and the musical programme made this holi memorable for the inmates and staff.
