Encashing fear
3/9/2020 10:48:40 PM
Fear about Coronavirus having infiltrated into the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has led to the disappearance of sanitizers and masks from the markets. Shortage is being faced across the UT.
There are complaints that both these items are being sold at higher rates, and medical stores are facing shortage due to demand being high. The government has already issued directions to the companies to keep the adequate stock available and ensure that these items are sold at standard rates. But it seems that people dealing with sanitizers and masks seem to be in no mood to miss the golden opportunity. Medicos are advising people to take care of their hand hygiene and ensure that they wear masks while going out. These are the major precautions which anyone needs to take. But for taking these precautions these items should be available in the market.
It’s not for the first time that any commodity which is in demand has become short. It happens, whenever any such natural calamity or disaster threatens Jammu and Kashmir. The hoarders hold back the stocks to create artificial scarcity so that they can sell the items in demand at their own rate.
It’s unfortunate that the companies which are into manufacturing of masks and sanitizers and their dealers have turned a blind eye towards the worries of people, who somehow want to keep themselves safe.
The government needs to intervene and act against the people, who are using this opportunity to make quick money. If masses keep on facing the shortage it will add to the panic and the anxiety prevailing across J&K UT.
The Health Department needs to come for the rescue of people by setting up special counters to sell the hand sanitizers and the masks at fair price. One step by the government will help in breaking the monopoly of hoarders and the traders who want to dictate terms to a common man in the times of crisis and fear.
Despite scientists working overtime no antidote has been found to kill the Coronavius virus. Under these circumstances the only possible way out is to take precautions to remain safe and secure. There seem to be a catastrophe in offing and all of us will have to join our hands to fight it out. We have to ensure that we lend a helping hand to each other rather than cashing the opportunity
