Srinagar, Mar 10: Snow clearance operations are yet to start for restoring traffic to border towns of Keran, Karnah and Machil, besides dozens of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir.
Traffic to these roads remained cut off for the fifth successive day on Tuesday in north Kashmir due to the roads remaining slippery and accumulation of snow.
Meanwhile, the road connecting Bandipora with border town of Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) from three sides, remained closed for the past over two months due to accumulation of snow, particularly at Razdan pass.
"Traffic remained suspended to dozens of far flung and remote villages, including Keran and Machil, due to slippery road conditions following light to moderate intermittent snow last week," an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, told UNI over phone on Tuesday.
He said border town of Kernah continued to remain cutoff for the sixth successive day on Tuesday. "On last Thursday traffic to the border town and its adjoining areas was suspended as a precautionary measure in view of prediction of snowfall," he added.
He said the snow clearance operation has not started yet.
A traffic police official told UNI that snow clearance operation to put through traffic to border town of Gurez has been restarted on Tuesday following improvement in the weather conditions.
Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, remained closed from last over two months due to accumulation of snow and fresh snowfall.
