Can't afford mistakes

The COVID-19 claiming first life in Kashmir has sent the alarm bells ringing across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The warnings about the virus having spread within the community are coming true. People need to realize that the COVID-19 threat is very much real and alive and the only aim of the virus is to kill people.
The man, who became the first casualty in the Valley, had a travel history and had visited some foreign countries. On his return after having symptoms of cough and cold he had visited the JVC hospital in Bemina and had informed the medicos about his health condition. Despite noting all the details, the case seems to have not been taken seriously and after preliminary checkup he was sent back. Apparently after getting a clean chit from the doctors, the deceased kept on meeting the people and carried on with his daily chores. The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has ordered an enquiry to ascertain whether the case was mishandled from the very beginning.
The man dying in Kashmir due to COVID-19 should serve as an eye opener for the medicos in Jammu region too, where already four people have tested positive and are being treated for this deadly disease.
Anyone with a travel history and having symptoms has to be treated as a COVID-19 suspect till the test reports come. His close contacts have to be tested and put into quarantine to prevent this virus from spreading further into the community. Amy mistake at this point of time can prove fatal for the entire community.
Everyone is aware about the fact that healthcare infrastructure, especially in Jammu region, is not that strong and the hospital won't be able to cope up with the rush of patients. The number of ventilators and testing kits are limited. Only precautions can save our lives. All of us have to realize that social distancing and staying under a lockdown are the only mantras which can pull us out of the crisis. These are testing times and these too will pass.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, recently stated that battle of Mahabharata was won in 10-days and the war against the Coronavirus will be won within the 21-days. Next three weeks are crucial. If we survive this scare we can look forward towards a lifetime ahead. It's in our hands to remain safe. No one will come to help us. We have to help ourselves.
