Jammu, Apr 15: In view of the COVID-19 lockdown and in absence of any arrangements made by administration to feed the stray cattle, these silent creatures have been battling for their survival but in this battle some volunteers, animal lovers in their individual capacity have been providing fodder to them.
Exhibiting his love for stray animals a police officer in Kathua town has been stealing time from his busy schedule, to feed around 500 stray animals silently without any media glare.
Since the lockdown and subsequent restrictions, all the dhabas and roadside eating joints have been closed which were the main source of food for these stray animals.
While the administration began feeding poor migrant labourers and gained appreciation from their top bosses, nobody came forward to feed these speechless creatures as lockdown brought them on the verge of starvation.
The Station House Officer (SHO) Kathua Inspector Sanjeev Chib took this noble task without seeking any media attention and spared his time from his hectic schedule to feed stray animals. On a daily basis, the SHO with a vehicle fully loaded with fodder serves to stray animals at all major spots alongside road in the town.
“In Kathua, more than 500 stray animals roam in the town and its surrounding areas. The Municipal Council had captured 275 stray animals and fed them last year, but due to lack of funds they were forced to free the animals,” Municipal Councilor Bhupinder Raj said.
The selfless service however was recognized by the Minister in PMO and local parliamentarian Jitendra Singh who lauded his role at this time of crisis on his facebook page.
