Udhampur witnesses decline in addiction cases amid lockdown
4/15/2020 11:41:15 PM
UDHAMPUR, Apr 15: As other parts of the country, the Udhampur town is also facing strict curbs owing to nationwide lockdown which has been clamped as a safety measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. People may or may not be satisfied with the imposition of strict lockdown but the ongoing restrictions have brought one blessing in disguise for the town as it is witnessing a remarkable decline in the cases of addiction. A senior police officer informed that the men venturing outside during the lockdown are mostly the ones hit by scarcity of drugs supply. “Now they are looki ng for every possible source to get the narcotic substances to satisfy their addiction,” the officer maintained adding that cops are there to take care of such elements. It is pertinent to mention here that the first phase of 21-day long lockdown ended yesterday and the next phase of 19 days started concurrently. Earlier, there were many cases linked to drug addiction being registered on daily basis in the town and many drug peddlers were being arrested by the police but as the lockdown started these cases have seen a sharp decline. “We will ensure drug-addiction free town soon and all steps will be put in place to accomplish that,” said SSP Udhampur adding that the mischief mongers spoiling the youth by addiction are being looked for and treated strictly.
