Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 26: After a gap of about six months, Bandipora administration on Sunday dispatched a cavalcade of 24 trucks carrying essential commodities to Gurez valley, which was connected to the district headquarters last week after remaining cutoff for six winter months due to heavy snowfall.
An official spokesperson said that though the roads were thrown open last week, the entry and exit from the Gurez valley has been banned as a precautionary measure to prevent the valley from getting infected by the Coronavirus.
Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza said the trucks carrying essential commodities were fumigated properly before leaving and a team of doctors also conducted medical checkups of the drivers to ensure that no suspect enters the valley.
He said only healthy drivers who were declared healthy by the doctors were allowed to move towards the Gurez Valley.
The vehicles which carried essential commodities include five vehicles carrying fresh vegetables, 4 diesel tankers, one tanker carrying petrol, two vehicles with LPG refills, poultry and other essential commodities.
The DC said that the administration is trying its level best to ensure that people in Gurez valley do not face hardships owing to ban on movement of traffic on the Gurez-Bandipora road.
He said the first dispatch of cavalcade will help in easing the problems of the local people.
He said there is sufficient stock of ration available in Gurez and more will be stocked in coming days.
