5/12/2020 1:07:06 PM
JAMMU: The Jammu province on Tuesday registered five more positive cases of COVID-19 from district Kathua, taking the total number of positive cases in the region to 82.

“Five more tested positive from Basholi in district Kathua taking total tally to 11 in the district,” SSP Kathua Shailendra Mishra said. While three of the fresh cases came from winter capital Jammu, as many persons were found infected in Kathua district—all of them from a family.

A 28-year-old woman from Billawar tehsil of Kathua and two of her children including a six-year-old girl and a three-month-old boy, tested positive for the deadly disease on Monday. Sources said that the trio had recently returned from New Delhi and were put to test upon their arrival.

“All 3 were already in quarantine and were identified at Lakhanpur corridor,” SSP Kathua Shailendra Mishra said.

“The trio was asymptomatic and has been shifted to Gandhi Nagar hospital here,” officials said.

In Jammu, three persons including two workers who recently returned from Gujarat tested positive.

A 47-year-old man from Bathindi and a 25-year-old man Sitni, Nagrota tested positive on Monday. Both of them had returned from Ahmedabad where they worked as labourers and upon their return to Jammu and Kashmir were put under quarantine at Kot Bhalwal.

“They were admitted to quarantine centre on 7 May along with other persons and on Monday, their samples returned positive, following which they were shifted to Chest Disease Hospital Jammu,” officials said.

A 40-year-old government teacher from Gurah Bakshi Nagar was the third person in the district to test positive for Coronavirus. The teacher is neighbour of a family whose three members were found infected with Coronavirus last week.

This is the biggest jump in the number of Coronavirus cases in Jammu region in one single day. Earlier, five cases each were recorded on April 1, April 2, and April 11.

With this, the number of total active cases in Jammu region has gone up to 21 out of total 77, while 55 of them recovered and one died. The number of active cases has increased by 3.5 times in last 11 days. On April 30, there were only 6 active cases spread over 5 districts of the region, which has today gone up to 21 spread across six districts.
