Jammu, May 27: In fight against Corona Virus, all agencies are jointly playing their role to prevent spread of the pandemic and one of the fraternities is contributing differently by providing hygeine atmosphere around the winter capital. The staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation is among 'Frontline Corona' warriors working with zeal in the municipal limits by not only cleaning the garbage but also sanitising every place to fight COVID19. In continuation with the santitation drives being carried out time to time in different wards of Jammu, these frontline warriors on the directions and under the guidance of senior officers, removed over 20,000 metric tonnes of garbage.
"Our men are engaged in every ward to maintain hygeine by fumigation, spraying disinfectants and teams are vis-a-vis holding santiation drives in parts of the city," Tina Mahajan, Secretary, JMC told news agency.
She said that as a part of cleanliness and sanitation drives being carried out in various wards, more than 20,000 metric tonnes of garbage was removed since the day lockdown was imposed.
"On an average 350 to 400 metric tonnes of garbage is removed on routine basis in different wards of Jammu Municipal Corporation," she said adding that in two month period of lockdown, which started on March 24 in view of corona virus, over 20,000 metric tonnes of garbage has been removed from the areas in municipal limits in form of slit, garbage (dry and wet) from dustbins, drains, door to door and from nullahs.
"Nearly 200 men of JMC (safai karamcharis, supervisors, drivers) are collectively performing their duties to keep the Jammu city clean and hygienic in view of pandemic threat," said the JMC Secretary.
Ms Mahajan also added that the JMC is also making preparations for upcoming monsoon season so that drains do not overflow and water do not remain stagnant on roadside, adding, "our teams are well equipped and besides man power, machinery like JCBs, tippers are also used in the entire exercise in all the wards."
Mahajan also said that due to COVID19 threat, the sampling and testing of JMC staff is being conducted to prevent any spread of the disease.
She however, appealed to the general public to maintain proper sanitation, as without their help it is hard to achieve desired results and to make Jammu a clean city.
"The team of JMC has put extra effort to keep the city clean in the prevailing situation arising due to outbreak of Corona Virus pandemic," said the Secretary.
“The collected garbage and silt is transported to the dumping site at Kot Bhalwal as a result of these drives,” she said.
JMC shall continue to undertake such sanitation drives by putting more men and machinery to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene in near future as well, said the Secretary.
Meanwhile JMC Commissioner Avny Lavasa is also supervising the sanitation drives aggressively with the staff since the Lockdown.
