Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, May 27: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir may have recorded 26 deaths due to Corona Virus over the past couple of months, but the truth of matter is that more than 90 percent of such deaths did not happen due to COVID-19.
An analysis of the deaths that have been attributed to Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir clearly point out that 24 out of 26 deaths took place due to the co-morbidities that the died persons had. Given this fact one can say that only two deaths have taken place directly due to Corona Virus.
Sources told Early Times that the concerned stakeholders in the administration want to get absolved from accountability that might have come up following the death of the persons whose deaths have been attributed to Corona Virus. They said that the state administration should look into this matter so that the confusion is avoided.
“It is important to note that 93 percent deaths that have been attributed to Corona Virus have taken place due to underlying ailments that these people were having. One fails to understand the logic behind this move and the only reason seems that the people want to get absolved from questions that may arise with due course of time,” said sources.
A health professional on the condition of anonymity said that the clubbing of non-covid deaths with the Covid-19 casualties gives an excuse to the concerned officials to avoid any questioning that may rise following the death of COVID-19 patients. He said the death of a COVID-19 patient due to Corona Virus provides an opportunity for the concerned stake holders to run away from the responsibility.
“Out of 26 deaths attributed to COVID-19 only two deaths could be directly linked to Corona Virus. The deaths of a youth from Kralpora-Hawal and that of a young lady from Habba Kadal in Srinagar can be said to have happened due to COVID-19. These people died due to shock which they experienced after learning that they are COVID-19 patients,” said the health professional.
It would be in place to mention here that 26 persons have died due to Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir up to this date. While 23 persons have died in Kashmir three such deaths have taken place in Jammu division. Srinagar tops the list with seven deaths so far.
