Excise Commissioner on move, inspects Army canteens, other outlets; collects feedback from the ground

Kishtwar, May 27: In order to check the pilferage of liquor at various levels and in order to gear up the supplies of liquor in Army canteens after a little bit relaxation in COVID -19 restrictions, the Excise Commissioner R K Shavan visited the army canteen depos and trade at BB cant.
As per the details available with Early Times, the commissioner was briefed by Vinod Raina, Regional Area Manager supplies about the over all functioning of Army canteens. He was informed that three main army canteen depos located in Udhampur falling under Northern command, Badami Bagh Srinagar besides BB cant are catering to the requirement of liquor supplies to army deployed in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The senior officers of excise department including DC Accounts, ETO’s, Technical Officer and area inspectors accompanied the Commissioner during the visit. Shavan made a round of depo and trade during which he randomly checked some samples of liquor. Sources said the Commissioner has directed for certain improvements in the mechanism for tracking the movement of liquor. Further he directed for computerization of the office of excise officials deployed in depo. It is pertinent to mention that the army canteens also remained closed in view of covid restrictions and were running dry However the Commissioner taking a holistic view had already restored the supplies much before order for opening of liquor shops in civil areas came from govt.
It is reliably learnt that top army officers are very happy about the timely orders of Commissioner Excise for restoration of liquor supplies to army canteens. The sources told the Early Times that the Commissioner has taken many novel initiatives to improve the functioning of department and he is working to improve the quality of supplies also. On Saturday Excise Commissioner order that for trades to remain open on Sunday as an exception so that there remains continuous supply of the liquor in shops after he visited and inspects various distilling/ bottling plants in samba.
As already reported J&K witness massive sale of liquor and during first three days of opening of shops- Excise department sell liquor worth 18 Crores during these first three days.
