District Samba achieves 100% coverage under social welfare pensions

SAMBA, May 27: In its endeavour to reach out to all the deserving applicants and enroll them under various pension schemes Social Welfare Department in district Samba has achieved 100% enrolment under pension schemes of all the eligible applicants.
District Social Welfare Office, Samba has added 6616 new pensions cases under various schemes and released monetary assistance to the destitute, poor, old aged and other socially and economically backward and deserving beneficiaries.
While elaborating on the efforts and the procedure adopted for quick results, District Social Welfare Officer Samba said that his office had to work round the clock during Covid-19 lockdown and despite all odds, the DSW office has provided monthly assistance under different welfare schemes and credited the same into accounts of all existing beneficiaries regularly.
Furthermore, same category beneficiaries have also been credited two months advance assistance.
DSWO further revealed that to clear the pendency, about 6616 new pension cases have been sanctioned in favour of the eligible beneficiaries of the district including 3140 in the month of March 2020. Simultaneously an amount of Rs. 1000 per head has been credited into their respective accounts.
Under PM Garib Kalyan Yojna (PMGKY), a special assistance scheme, all the beneficiaries under Old Age category have been provided one time additional assistance of Rs. 1000 in two equal installments for the month of April and May 2020 through the DBT mode.
Similarly, the Department has credited Rs 1000 each into individual accounts of the beneficiaries belonging to widow and PHC categories. The Social Welfare department Samba is committed to the socio-economic upliftment of vulnerable sections of society particularly during Covid-19 outbreak and the department has taken the responsibility to make the process convenient and ensure all the beneficiaries registered with the department receive timely monetary assistance. The department has provided assistance to 74 cases under State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) for the year 2019-20. Under Pre Metric scholarship scheme for school going students, scholarship was sanctioned in favour of about 4926 students amounting Rs 51.49 lakh in the district. In addition to this under ICPS, 58 children belonging to orphan category have been provided financial assistance under sponsorship programme by the department. Nearly 101 Panchayat- wise list has been formulated which is kept with Sarpanches of the panchayats. The issues regarding inactive bank account, nonpayment of pension due to incorrect account number besides regular updation of the list regarding reporting of death cases and new entries are being sought out on priority with active involvement of PRI representatives.
