JK sees tremendous jump in COVID-19 cases as 285 fresh cases reported, one more person dies

SRINAGAR, June 4: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir saw a tremendous jump in the Corona Virus cases today as 285 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the different districts. At the same time, the death toll due to the virus reached 35 as one more person died today.
Reports said that a resident of Noorbagh in Srinagar died today at the Chest Diseases Hospital Drugjan, Dalgate here. The man had tested positive for Corona Virus couple of days back at the SMHS hospital following which he was shifted to the CD Hospital. He had some ailment and died today. In the meantime, 285 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported today in Jammu & Kashmir. Kulgam reported 49 cases followed by Shopian 35 cases, Baramulla 29 cases, Anantnag 27 cases, Srinagar and Udhampur 25 cases each, Kupwara 19 cases, Bandipora 15 cases, Pulwama 14 cases, Jammu 11 cases, Rajouri six cases, Budgam and Kishtwar five cases each, Ganderbal and Poonch four cases each and Kathua, Reasi, Samba and Doda three cases each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 285 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 63 from Jammu division and 222 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 3142. Also, one COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir division.
Moreover, 41 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 24 from Jammu division and 17 from Kashmir division. Out of 3,142 positive cases, 2,059 are active positive, 1,048 have recovered and 35 have died; four in Jammu division and 31 in Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 1, 95,677 test results available, 1, 92,535 samples have been tested as negative till date.
Additionally, till date 1, 97,350 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 42,195 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 38 in hospital quarantine, 2,059 in hospital isolation and 53,745 under home surveillance. Besides, 99,278 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 377 positive cases, 217 active positive, 155 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 362 positive cases, 308 active positive, 50 recoveries, four deaths, Srinagar has 344 positive cases, 193 active positive, 143 recovered, eight deaths; Kupwara has 318 positive cases, 235 active positive, 82 recovered, one death; Baramulla has 301 positive cases, 190 active positive, 104 recovered, seven deaths.
“Shopian has 240 positive cases, 125 active positive, 112 recovered, three deaths; Bandipora has 176 positive cases, 39 active positive, 136 recovered, one death; Budgam has 129 positive cases, 60 active positive, 67 recovered, two deaths; Pulwama has 119 positive cases, 106 active positive, 13 recovered and Ganderbal has 41 positive cases, 15 active positive, 26 recoveries,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 178 positive cases, 124 active positive, 52 recoveries, two deaths; Ramban has 153 positive cases, 137 active positive, 16 recoveries; Udhampur has 97 positive cases, 67 active positive, 29 recovered, one death; Kathua has 83 positive cases, 55 active positive, 28 recovered; Poonch has 63 positive cases, 61 active positive, two recoveries; Samba has 51 positive cases, 30 active positive, 21 recoveries.
“Rajouri has 46 positive cases, 41 active positive, five recovered; Doda has 30 positive cases 28 active positive, one recovered, one death; Kishtwar has 17 positive cases, 14 active positive, three recovered; Reasi has 17 positive cases, 14 active positive, three recovered,” reads the bulletin. According to the bulletin, out of the 3,142 positive cases in J&K, 1,323 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
