PWD blacktopping Army Officer’s land ‘illegally’
6/28/2020 11:49:38 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 28: Public Works Department has forcefully carried out blacktopping on private land owned by Army officer illegally in Trikuta Nagar area, near BJP Office, however the court has stayed any kind of construction on the said land.
According to sources, the land where blacktopping is being carried out is a private land and ancestral land Colonel Puran Singh Sumbria. “The work has been carried out by the PWD disrespecting court’s order and without calling any tenders for the work. In Jammu thousands of road are unattended and deplorable in conditions, why PWD is focusing on family of nationalists where seconds generation is also serving the nation, a son of Colonel sahib is serving as Indian Navy officer”, locals told Early Times.
They said that the family had taken up the matter with Dr Nirmal Singh, the then Deputy Chief Minister and Minister incharge of Housing Department, the case has not been settled yet , but the department without waiting for any outcome of this case has forcefully started the work.
When contacted Dr Nirmal Singh Ex-Dy CM said, “The case is pending for compensation in Secretariat. The family had met me when I was Dy CM, and I expedited the case for compensation, but due to fall of the then government the case couldn’t reach to its logical conclusion”, he said, adding that he came to know about the work being carried out by the PWD and it is unfortunate. “If encroachment on government land by an individual is an offence, same is the law for government, how a government body can forcefully carry out works on a private land”, he added.
Chief Engineer PWD Jammu when contacted said that no such works has been carried by the PWD.
