COVID situation turning dangerous
7/16/2020 11:45:15 PM
The spike in number of the COVID-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has created panic across the Union Territory. Lockdown has been re-imposed in many districts in Kashmir to prevent the infection from spreading further.
In the past 15-days J&K has recorded more than 100 deaths with maximum of these being reported in the Valley. Till now, situation in Jammu has been under control but that doesn’t mean that the helmsmen can become complacent and take things for granted. It applies on common people also. They too have to ensure that they don’t indulge in any such activity which can lead to a catastrophe.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic people of Jammu have shown exemplary discipline and have tried to follow the COVID-19 guidelines in letter and spirit. They will have to do the same till the cure is found to control this virus.
According to the media reports hospitals in Kashmir are finding it hard to accommodate the patients as their number is increasing with each passing day. There are more hospitals in Kashmir than Jammu region despite that managing rush has become difficult. If such situation arises in Jammu one can imagine what can happen.
In these circumstances precaution is better than cure. We have to follow the norms like maintaining social distance, wearing masks and hand hygiene. The clinical trials for the COVID vaccine have commenced in India. Medicos and experts are claiming that these vaccines can come in the market within 2 to 3 months. So it’s the duty of the people to take care till the vaccine comes. Russia is claiming that it has already found the vaccine and its working. The vaccine coming up in Russia has come as a glimmer of hope and it appears that world will get rid of this pandemic soon.
Everyone, including the ones, who are handling the affairs, need to understand that situation is not normal. All the activities have to be curbed. Similarly a common man should understand that world has changed due to pandemic. Just wandering from one place to another unnecessarily exposes people to risk of catching COVID. Marriage functions need to be performed simply without inviting too many people. It’s not necessary to visit bank branches or offices if the work can be done online. Politicians should understand that seeking publicity amidst pandemic is not helping anyone’s cause. They have to set an example by following COVID guidelines but unfortunately they are not doing it.
