3 terrorist associates arrested in Bandipora, army porter martyred in Uri sector

BANDIPORA, July 29: Police claimed to have arrested 3 terrorist associates, while an army porter was martyred in sniper fire along LoC in Uri sector of north Kashmir.
A senior police official said that the arrested associates were identified as, Abrar Gulzar R/o Bagh Bandipora, Mohd Waqar R/o Chittay Banday, Muneer Ahmad Sheikh R/o Quil Muqam Bandipora. The three were arrested in case FIR No. 74/2020 U/S 16, 18,39UAPA, and 7/27IA act.
As per the investigation, they were involved in various subversive activities besides providing logistic support and assistance to militants operating in district Bandipora.
Incriminating material has been recovered from the possession of the accused persons and further Investigation of the case is going on.
Pertinently, yesterday media reports had said that the Indian Army and the police have recovered a huge cache of weapons, which include six grenades with Chinese markings, and drugs from a vehicle at a joint check post in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A vehicle was stopped for checking at Sadhna Top in Kupwara district where security forces found one AK-56 rifle with two magazines, two pistols along with four magazines, 76 rounds of rifle ammunition and 90 rounds of pistol, said media reports.
It further said that six grenades with Chinese markings, six blue-plastic grenades, and eight OG plastic grenades were also recovered along with approximately 10 kilogram of packets containing narcotics.
Meanwhile, a porter was martyred in a sniper fire in Uri sector today. According to a senior police official, a 26-year- old army porter was killed on Wednesday afternoon in a sniper fire by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir Baramulla district.
The porter was working with Army’s 11 Mahar units and was posted with Tika Rajput, Lachipora post along LoC, he was killed in sniper fire by Pakistani troops in violation of the ceasefire, the officer said.
The porter has been identified as Altaf Hussain, 26, son of Suluman Hussain of Gohalan village of Uri.
Meanwhile, Srinagar based defence spokesperson said that Pakistan initiated an unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) today afternoon along the LoC in Uri Sector, Baramulla by firing Mortars and other weapons.
One Army porter, who was injured in CFV, succumbed to injuries, adding a befitting response was given, said Rajesh Kalia.
