No one can replace Gandhis
8/25/2020 12:34:27 AM
Country’s grand old party, Congress, is facing rebellion as the leaders have started raising questions over the role of leadership.
Soon after Sonia Gandhi received the letter she offered to resign from the post of interim chief of the party and has asked the Congress leaders to look for a new president of All India Congress Committee.
The Central Working Committee of the party which met in New Delhi witnessed a fiery session as the veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad also offered to resign after facing the heat. Nearly 20 Congress leaders ahead of the CWC meet had written to the AICC chief that process should be started to look for a new party chief.
The Gandhi family stands cornered after running the Congress party for the past more than 130-years. Nothing has been going right for the party for the past many years. After being ousted from the power in 2014, the party has not been able to put its act together. Handing over the reins to inexperienced Rahul Gandhi led to the debacle of the party in 2019 parliamentary elections. Even in assembly elections in the States, Congress Party has failed to deliver.
Senior leaders of the party too seem to be fed up and are calling for a change. Gandhi family is facing rebellion from the people who stood by the party during all these years. But now these leaders seem to have realized that the party needs a tough leader and Rahul Gandhi is not the right choice.
It appears that family rule within the Congress is about to end and we may see someone else coming forward to anchor the sinking ship. After 2019, the party has even failed to play the role of an opposition. The Congress leaders seem to have lost interest in the politics as everything revolves around Rahul Gandhi and his few handpicked people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerging as a strong and popular leader has dealt a big blow to the grand old party of the country. The Congress has no leader of PM Modi’s caliber and Rahul Gandhi is no match for him.
The party is caught in a Catch-22 situation. It has no idea about from where to start again as all the roads leading to power appear to be blocked. May be a new leader can rejuvenate the party. But the big question is there anyone who can replace Gandhis? For time being answer seems no as Sonia Gandhi will continue as the interim chief of the party as the CWC meeting unanimously at the end decided to let Sonia continue.
