SUNDERBANI, Aug 24: A poor farmer sustained grievous injuries after he was physically attacked by a goon while refusing to hand over the payment to him which the goon claimed to have been credited in your account following works carried out under MGNREGA.
Sharing views with Early Times the farmer Suraj Prakash said that on August 22 (Saturday) while he was busy grazing his cattle a person appeared before him and asked him to hand over the money that has been credited to his bank account. He said that he felt perplexed and said that how could his account be credited without his knowledge.
“The man told me that the amount has been credited on account of some MGNREGA works carried out in his ward in his Panchayat. I made it clear to him that the work has been carried out in ward number of my Panchayat as I live in Barnara village of the Sunderbani block in Rajouri district,” said Suraj.
Suraj said that he owns a small flour mill in his village and is not even remotely connected with any labour work. He said that when he resisted and told the man he cannot give the money the man attacked him thus causing grievous injuries to him. After getting injured in the incident Suraj was shifted to Sub District Hospital Sunderbani where he is recuperating.
He accused that a nexus is going on between the local Panchayat representatives and the Village Level Worker and under the same Panchayat works are carried out JCBs and other machinery. He said that bungling has been going for a long time now and same needs to be probed.
The concerned BDO is an honest and upright officer and the wrong doings are being done by the concerned VLW. The role of the VLW needs to be probed in professional manner so that the things fall in right place in the Sunderbani block. It is virtually impossible for the BDO to keep track of the developments in the entire block since there are 17 Panchayats in the block,” said a group of locals.
