Jammu, Aug 24: The SaMaPa Digital Baithak witnessed mesmerizing recitals by young generation musicians in the 8th week of its ongoing series being presented by the legendary musician Pandit Bhajan Sopori and music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori.
‘SaMaPa Digital Baithak Series’ is exclusively running on SaMaPa’s Official YouTube Channel and has been specially designed by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts), the well-known educational organization of India, being held on Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 10:00 am. SaMaPa is a cultural movement acclaimed as the Cultural Bridge of Jammu & Kashmir with the rest of the country and to have created a new generation of music connoisseurs. The motto of SaMaPa is ‘Jan Jan Tak Sangeet’ (music to the masses) and this Digital Baithak is intended to create a bridge between the artist and the audiences worldwide.
The first programme of the 8th week featured Sarangi Solo recital by Gouri Banerjee accompanied on the Tabla by her father & Guru Pt. Kishore Banerjee. An ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio, she presented Raga Madhuvanti, a melodious evening raga also known as Madhubanti. She commenced her recital with melodious Aalap followed by Gat in Vilambit Ektaal and Drutlaya Teentaal. SaMaPa has always made efforts to present younger generation female musicians of India and this recital was in continuation of that motive. The introduction to the recital was presented by renowned Vocalist and Padmashri awardee Vidushi Sumitra Guha who explained the raga by singing a self-composed Tarana.
The other programme featured another dynamic young duo from Maihar tradition, the Mohan brothers. Lakshay Mohan on Sitar and Aayush Mohan on Sarod presented Raga Hem Lalit, a rare raga which is a fusion of Hemant and Lalit. The Mohan brothers commenced their recital with detailed Aalap and Jod and concluded their recital with a Gat in Dhamar Taal showcasing the beauty of their tradition. The eminent Mohan Veena exponent Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, a Padma Bhushan & Grammy awardee, presented the introduction with a detailed description of the raga. The Baithaks were compered by well-known broadcaster and anchor Sadhna Shrivastav.
