Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Jammu and Kashmir talking in different languages over restoration of statehood have created confusion within the party ranks.
According to the media reports some BJP leaders are demanding that J&K’s statehood should be restored soon while others are of the opinion that J&K should remain a Union Territory till the entire system is overhauled. There are sharp differences of opinion within the party leaders.
The BJP leaders who are toeing the line of Kashmir centric politicians are facing sharp criticism from within the party as many senior leaders are of the opinion that normalcy is the prerequisite for statehood to be restored.
Since the day BJP has pulled out from the Peoples Democratic Party led government in Jammu and Kashmir, the saffron party leaders in J&K have always been caught unaware of the major decisions which were taken by the party leadership in New Delhi. There have been many instances in the past which have proven it beyond any doubt that J&K BJP leaders are not even consulted before any major decision is taken.
There are many reasons for these leaders being kept at bay. The biggest reason could be that they have ignored the people, who voted for them. Another reason could be that they made promises which they were unable to fulfill.
There are reports that the grass root workers of the BJP have approached the party leaders in the national capital and have apprised them about the difficulties being faced by a common BJP worker on the ground level. When BJP leaders were sharing power with Kashmir centric PDP they just ran away from the electorate and stopped paying attention towards the basic issues of a common man.
In 2014 assembly elections people of Jammu went out of way to ensure BJP get’s the lion’s share. The BJP for the first time in the electoral history of Jammu and Kashmir managed to secure 25 seats out of 37 in Jammu region. People of Jammu were hopeful that BJP leaders will become their voice and would ensure that the discrimination which Jammu faced during all these years would end. But after coming into power they forgot their promises and became a B-team of PDP. For three and a half years they ensured that they remain in the good books of their Kashmir centric friends so that they can keep on reaping the benefits of power without any hiccups. The BJP leaders who are demanding restoration of J&K’s statehood have enjoyed power and they want it back somehow.
