EARLY TIMES REPORT

KATHUA, Aug 27: Annoyed over registration of a false case against one of the members of Press Club Kathua, the journalists belonging to print as well as electronic media wearing black ribbons staged a silent protest here on Thursday. President Sanjay Pathak, Chairman Manuj Kesar, and Joint Secretary Mohan Sharma in their addresses alleged that Kathua Police, keeping all its ethics and morals aside, is working under the influence of one of the high-flying citizen of city.
The Press Club officials briefed that in a case registered with Police Station, on August 19 police party raided a house of retired DySP Raina family during late hours. Next day the family organized a press conference to condemn unlawful attitude of police. In addition the family also named one businessman of city involved in police raid episode. The media persons attending press conference telecasted the press coverage.
However, after the flash of the news, the businessman contacted media persons and directed them to remove his name from the clipping but the media persons keeping ethics refused to do so. Following which businessman who is having towering approach in Police department managed to get a false case registered with Police against one media person.
The officials said that the illogical attitude of Police is highly condemnable and media fraternity is not going to tolerate this injustice.
The club officials said that despite odd situations media is doing its job with dedication and trying to raise the public issues with honesty but police is trying to gag the voice of fourth pillar of democracy.
“The false case is not registered against one journalist but it is against whole media fraternity, which is intolerable,” they maintained.
The club officials also said that media is voice of public and despite all odds media will not hesitate to perform its duties. They also said that Press Club Kathua will not sit idle in this matter but will highlight it before Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Press Club Jammu and even will register a complaint with Press Council of India.
