| Government further strengthens J&K administration, issues rules for the transaction of business for new UT | | | Srinagar/ New Delhi: In a bid towards further streamlining the administrative matters in the newly-formed Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre, on Friday issued rules for the transaction of business in the state.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) strengthens the integration of the state in the aftermath of abrogation of Article 370. On August 5 last year, the government abrogated Article 370 and revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
After the government's decision, a group of officers was created vide Government Order No 956 dated August 23, 2019, to study the existing rules of business. The officers also studied the rules of business in union territories of Puducherry, Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar and submitted a draft to the government.
Subsequently, Administrative Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD) for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Administrative Secretary, Ladakh Affairs for the Department for the Union Territory of Ladakh, headed two subcommittees finalised the draft rules and submitted them to the Chief Secretary.
The newly rolled-out rules of business will ensure smoother transactions between the central government and the newly formed union territory of J&K.
On October 2019, after the Parliament approved the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two union territories - J&K and Ladakh. While the international community has given mixed reactions towards the decision, New Delhi has vociferously justified the move calling it India's 'internal matter'. |
