PEECC to observe National Protest Day
10/4/2020 11:16:08 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 4: The Jammu & Kashmir Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) has condemned the priority of present day government is in ease of making business for the profit monger community and all aspects related to the right of electricity has been set aside.
The Central Government is out to destroy the power sector of Country despite everyone is going through tough times because of COVID-19 crisis which clearly is unethical & immoral. The recent move of the Privatisation of the Power Distribution sector is highly deplorable and accordingly all over India 5th Oct 2020 is being observed as National Protest Day.
To rush through such changes in Power Sector at a time when the states/UT’s and public face the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis is inexplicable. It is a sad day for the Country that the decision of Privatization has been announced in this crisis situation of COVID-19 which goes against the basic ethos of democracy where under the major policy decision shift requires threadbare consultations with all the stakeholders including general public which will have direct impact due to privatization of power sector.
As the privation of electricity is no way for power sector reforms, privatization will impact adversely upon poor domestic consumers, medium and small industries & and poor farmers. Further, the idea of privatization has been rolled out without looking at the ground realities and is bound to get failed.
The JKPEECC vehemently criticised the approach of the Government ventilated through the proposed “draconian and anti-people” electricity legislation as well as privatization proposal with the clear objective of snatching away the right of access to electricity.
Unfortunately Government of Uttar Pradesh has resorted to suppressive measures against the UP Power Employees and Engineers who are peacefully protesting against Privatisation of Discoms.
JKPEECC cherish the democratic right to dissent and oppose anti-democratic polices of the government. In that spirit, we stand in solidarity with the Er. Shailendra Dubey, other leaders and employees who are arrested on September 28, 2020.
The meeting was attended by Sachin Tickoo General Secretary JKEEGA,Jaipal Sharma, President DEA, Sanjeev Bali, President PPEU, Ajaz Kazmi,Balbir Singh, Draftsman Association, Anil Slathia, Lineman and workers Union, Tarun Gupta, Daily wagers Union, Jasbir Singh, ITI Union,HD Singh,TEF, kulbir Singh, EEU, Akhil Kumar, Need based Union, Parshottam Kumar CNGEEU.
