Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 4: Six thousand Rupees per annum credited directly in their account means a lot for the small farmers like Sanjay Kumar and his fellow villagers as it has greatly helped them to survive the financial abyss they face at the crucial stages of farm operations.
The vital income support is being provided to the small and marginal farmers under Pradhan Mantri KIsan SAmman Nidhi (PM-KISAN). Commonly known as farm income support, it has proved a great stress buster for the farmers. Kumar, the resident of Panchayat Dhaggar of Block Duggan-Kathua district, termed the help coming in Rs two thousand per installment over a period of one year as a big incentive for the farmers like him.
Kumar and many other farmers have come to participate in the Gram Sabha organized in connection with the Back to village phase III in his Panchayat. “They (official team) gave us lot of information about the farm centric schemes and sought our suggestions about the works to be included in the Plan under different schemes for need based development of our Panchayat Halqa, he said. The enthusiasm of Kumar and his fellow villagers is reflects in the queries and suggestions they ask while interacting with officials out there.
“The support provided under PM-KISAN Yojana has relived me from the worry of the financial constraints which the farmers face at the time of sowing season. “Earlier, many farmers would leave their land uncultivated for want of money to buy the seeds and other inputs” he said. “You can imagine how Rs 2000 invested in farming will have a propelling effect for the future income of a farmer, he added. Sanjay Kumar expresses gratitude to the Sarpanch of his Panchayat for guiding him and his fellow villagers in availing the benefits of the scheme. He does not forget to mention that the financial support is directly credited in his Bank account which he was able to open on the recommendation of his Panchayat.
The PM KISAN, a central sector scheme, was launched with a view to augment the income of the Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs).
The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of the SMFs in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income at the end of the each crop cycle.
