Jammu, Oct 4: The former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta today said that the new domicile rules mark the end of misfortune of discrimination against those who had been living in J&K for more than 70 years, but were deprived of legitimate citizenship rights.
While distributing Domicile Certificates to the beneficiaries here at Cantonment area Wards, the senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta said that the domicile certificate is not merely a piece of paper, but a document that restores the honour and dignity of lakhs of people who were victimized for past many decades. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for ending the inhumane discrimination against the residents of J&K. He said that a serious miscarriage of history has been undone after 70 years with the new domicile rules by Jammu and Kashmir Administration. He stated that it will give long due rights to all residents of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state who were deprived of the basic rights for the last so many decades.
Terming the new rules as dawn of a new era for the Union Territory, he said history will vindicate us and prove that this course correction was in keeping with the principle of equality and the norms of a healthy democracy. The people of J&K UT must apply and avail the benefits of Domicile Certificates to secure better future for their wards, he said, adding that the BJP led government is committed to deliver justice to the people irrespective of region, religion and caste.
The Domicile Certificates were handed over to dozens applicants who expressed happiness after receiving the certificates and extended their gratitude towards the former Chief Minister for the same. Among those who were present included Corporator and Mandal President, Bharat Bhushan; Narinder Gupta, District Secretary; Jyoti Sharma, Mandal General Secretary and Ward President, Jatinder Kumar.
Meanwhile, a deputation of local residents from Pareet Nagar led by Jankar Singh and Joginder Singh Chib met Kavinder Gupta and apprised several issues people face and put forward their demands to take them up the government including road connectivity to Deva Palace, proper drainage system and other issues.
Senior BJP leader, after giving a keen hearing to their issues, assured them that their demands will be taken up with the authorities concerned and would be addressed at the earliest.
