8Locals urge authorities to intervene

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Srinagar, OCT 7: The locals in North Kashmir’s Bandipora’s have alleged that the Tehsil office in Ajas in the district is allegedly issuing Illegal Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates to the undeserving persons. As per the reports, local alleged that scores of EWS certificates have been issued by Tehsil Office Ajas, in favor of non-deserving persons, belonging to rich and influential families. Locals further alleged that these certificates have been issued fraudulently, in connivance with the Tehsildar concerned.
It is quite a shame that several influential people have been receiving Economically Weaker Section certificates after submitting false details, alleged a local. He added that I have seen people receiving an EWS certificate while those who deserve are struggling. “These they have been succeeded to obtain, after paying bribes to revenue officials of Tehsil Ajas,” locals alleged. Pertinently, an RTI was moved for seeking information of the persons, who have availed the EWS certificates; however, Tehsil Office has provided only details of 25 beneficiaries, but the locals have claimed that the number can be more than that. Locals have urged the Crime Branch Kashmir and Anti-corruption Bureau to take Suo-moto cognizance of the alleged fraud and investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Ajas, while refuting the allegations of EWS certificates having been issued to non-deserving persons said that if anyone has specific information about any such certificate having been issued, he can approach his office and the complaint will be looked into. While as the complaint was brought into the notice of the Assistant Commissioner Revenue Bandipora Reyaz Beigh, who said that he will investigate the matter and if the allegations are found true, necessary action under law will be initiated against the responsible persons.
